Six African Americans Taking on New Administrative Roles in Higher Education

Claudia DonaldClaudia Donald was promoted to director of online communications in university relations at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst. Since 2005, she has served as associate graduate registrar and associate director of graduate admissions.

Donald is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts, where she majored in food and natural resources. She earned a master’s degree in computer information systems from Boston University.

damonwadeDamon R. Wade was appointed vice president for institutional effectiveness and enrollment management at Grambling State University in Louisiana. He was director of institutional effectiveness, research, and assessment at Elizabeth City State University in North Carolina.

Dr. Wade is a graduate of Elizabeth City State University, where he majored in business administration. He holds a master’s degree in urban affairs from Norfolk State University in Virginia and a master’s in public administration and a Ph.D. from Walden University in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

sm-WeirLLJuna Weir was promoted to director of the Office of Educational Equity and Inclusion at Alcorn State University in Mississippi. She had been serving as interim director of intercollegiate athletics at the university.

Weir holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Alcorn State University. She has been on the athletics staff at the university for the past 16 years.

Malika_Roman_IslerMalika Roman Isler was named the inaugural director of wellbeing at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. She was an assistant professor of social medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Dr. Roman Isler is a graduate of Wake Forest University. She earned a master’s degree at the University of South Carolina and a Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

GibsonClaytonClayton A. Gibson was appointed vice president for business and finance at Alabama A&M University. He has been serving in the post on an interim basis for the past year. Earlier he was the internal auditor at the university.

Gibson holds a master’s degree in accounting from the University of Notre Dame.

SE HairstonSteven E. Hairston was named vice president for institutional advancement and chief operating officer at St. Augustine’s University in Raleigh, North Carolina. He was the strategic planning manager for the North Carolina Department of Public Safety.

Dr. Hairston is a graduate of Virginia Union University in Richmond. He earned a master of public administration degree at Temple University in Philadelphia and a doctorate in leadership studies at North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro.
