Emory University Debuts Archive of 12,000 Photos of African Americans

unidentified-woman-crThe Manuscript, Archives, and Rare Book Library at Emory University has announced the opening of its online Robert Langmuir African American Photograph Collection. The collection includes nearly 12,000 photographs depicting African American life in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

The collection was acquired by Emory University in 2012 and archiving and digital work has now been completed. The images in the collection include studio portraits, military and school photographs, and pictures of ordinary African Americans from all walks of life.

For now, the collection is available online to Emory students, faculty and staff who log in with an Emory user account.
