Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta has announced the launch of the Health Equity Leadership & Exchange Network (HELEN). The network is an effort to advance the cause of health equity and to eliminate racial disparities in health. Morehouse is working on the project in conjunction with the National REACH Coalition and the National Collaborative for Health Equity. The project is funded by a grant from the Aetna Foundation.
The participants will combine their expertise in community-led initiatives to develop and implement policies and programs that promote health equity. Daniel E. Dawes, executive director of government relations, health policy, and external affairs at the Morehouse School of Medicine and the leader of the HELEN project, said that the “HELEN project will include members of various organizations, coalitions, and associations committed to the elimination of health disparities and serve as a national forum for health equity champions to share information about timely, relevant, and pressing policy issues impacting health equity.”
