University of Pennsylvania Professor Honored by the American Psychiatric Association

Roberts DorothyDorothy Roberts, the George A. Weiss University Professor of Law and Sociology at the University of Pennsylvania, has been selected to receive the 2015 Solomon Carter Fuller Award from the American Psychiatric Association. The award honors “a Black citizen who has pioneered in an area which has significantly benefitted the quality of life for Black people.” She will receive the award at the association’s annual meeting in Toronto this May.

Professor Roberts is the author of several books including Fatal Invention: How Science, Politics, and Big Business Re-Create Race in the Twenty-First Century (New Press, 2011 ) and Sex, Power, and Taboo: Gender and HIV in the Caribbean and Beyond (Ian Randle Publishers, 2009).

Before joining the Penn faculty in 2012, Professor Roberts taught for 14 years at the Northwestern University School of Law. She is a graduate of Yale University and Harvard Law School.
