New Mexico State University in Las Cruces has announced a field of four finalists for the position of dean of the university’s College of Education. All four candidates will visit the university’s campus by mid-March for interviews and public forums. Two of the four finalists are Black.
Osman Alawiye is dean of the School of Education at St. Cloud State University in Minnesota. Earlier he was dean of the Ella Cline Shear School of Education at the State University of New York-Geneseo. Dr. Alawiye is a graduate of Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell, South Dakota. He holds a master’s degree from the University of South Dakota and a doctorate in curriculum and instruction from New Mexico State University.
Donald Pope-Davis is a professor of clinical psychology at DePaul University in Chicago. He served as provost at DePaul from 2013 to 2014. Earlier, he was associate provost at the University of Notre Dame in Indiana. Professor Pope-Davis is a graduate of Benedictine University in Lisle, Illinois. He holds a master’s degree in counseling psychology from Indiana University and a Ph.D. from Stanford University in California.
