Wil Smith, a former associate dean at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine, died on February 22 in a Philadelphia hospital. He was 46 years old and had suffered from colon cancer.
A native of Florida, Smith attended Florida A&M University in Tallahassee for one year before joining the Navy. After serving in the Gulf War, he enrolled at Bowdoin College at the age of 28 and graduated in 2000 with a degree in sociology.
After graduation, Smith joined the staff at the university as director of multicultural student programs. He later earned a law degree at the University of Maine. After finishing law school, Smith returned to Bowdoin as associate dean of multicultural student programs. At the time of his death, Smith was dean of community and multicultural affairs at the Berkshire School in Sheffield, Massachusetts.
With the deepest of sympathy to his daughter, who spent her early years on the Bowdoin College campus.
