Todd C. Shaw was recently named the 38th president of the National Conference of Black Political Scientists. The organization is the largest and oldest national professional organization of Black/African American political scientists.
Dr. Shaw is the College of Arts & Sciences Distinguished Associate Professor of Political Science and African American Studies at the University of South Carolina. He is also serving as the interim director of African American studies at the university. He is the co-author of Uneven Roads: Introduction to U.S. Racial and Ethnic Politics (Congressional Quarterly Press, 2014). An earlier book is Now Is the Time! Detroit Black Politics and Grassroots Activism (Duke University Press, 2009).
Dr. Shaw has served on the faculty at the University of South Carolina since 2003. Previously, he taught at the University of Illinois. Dr. Shaw is a graduate of Howard University in Washington, D.C. He holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in American politics from the University of Michigan.
