Princeton University Funds Initiatives Aimed at Increasing Diversity

princetonPrinceton University has endorsed the recommendations offered by a 51-member Special Task Force on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and has announced several steps it will take to improve the university’s diversity efforts. The provost has authorized budget allocations to:

  • Hire a new senior level administrator for diversity and inclusion in the Office of Vice President for Campus Life.
  • Increase funding for staffing and program enhancement at the Carl A. Fields Center for Equality and Cultural Understanding.
  • Increase funding for identity-based student groups and organizations.
  • Create a Provost Fund for Cultural Studies that will support faculty efforts to develop curriculum in cultural studies fields.

Princeton President Christopher L. Eisgruber stated that “to achieve the excellence to which we aspire, we must welcome talented people from all backgrounds to Princeton, and we must enable them to flourish. To deepen our understanding of the world and prepare students for citizenship and leadership in diverse societies, we must cultivate a campus climate that encourages constructive exchange among people with differing perspectives and experiences.”
