Amherst College, the highly rated liberal arts institution in western Massachusetts, has announced that it has acquired a collection of the papers of Hugh Price. Price, who graduated from Amherst in 1963, is a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution. From 1994 to 2003, Price was president of the National Urban League.
A graduate of Yale Law School, Price worked for four years as a writer at The New York Times. He later worked for the public television station in New York City, rising to the rank of senior vice president. Recently, he served as a visiting professor in public and international affairs at Princeton University.
Among the archival collection are correspondence, memos, newspaper and magazine articles, position papers, videotapes of Price’s television appearances, speeches, and manuscripts of books. A good portion of the collection is related to Price’s time at the National Urban League.
