Al M. Panu Appointed Chancellor of the University of South Carolina at Beaufort

panuAl M. Panu was named chancellor of the University of South Carolina at Beaufort. The campus, in the southeast corner of the state, enrolls about 1,725 undergraduate students. Blacks make up 19 percent of the student body.

Since 2013, Dr. Panu has served as senior vice president for university affairs at the University of North Georgia in Dahlonega. Earlier he was vice president for academic affairs and dean of the School of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics at Gainesville State College, which has now become part of the University of North Georgia.

A native of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Dr. Panu is a graduate of Tuskegee University in Alabama, where he majored in chemistry. He holds a master’s degree in chemistry from the University of Alabama and a Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Georgia.
