In Memoriam: Ancio Ostane, 1978-2015

professor-ostane-200x300Ancio Ostane, a former adjunct professor of mathematics at Medgar Evers College in Brooklyn and a teacher in the New York City public school system, was killed in a fiery crash on the Southern State Parkway in Bayshore, New York, on July 12. Ostance was 37 years old.

Ostane’s car was rear-ended and burst into flames. Ostane’s two children Andy, age 8, and Sephora, age 3, were also killed in the crash. Ostane’s wife and mother of his two children was able to escape the car but was unable to get any of the other occupants out before the fire started.

Police say that a drunk driver who fled the accident scene is responsible. A second man was arrested for helping the drunk driver escape the scene.
