Roger Roy Gregory, the former director of alumni relations at North Carolina Central University in Durham, died on September 1. He was 66 years old.
A native of Camden, North Carolina, Gregory was a 1971 alumnus of North Carolina Central University. He did graduate work at the University of Cincinnati and Rutgers University in New Jersey. He was a human resources professional in the New York metropolitan area for nearly 20 years. During those years, Gregory served as chair of the NCCU Alumni Association.
Gregory returned to Durham in 1989 as the director of human resources for the North Carolina Mutual Life Insurance Company. That year, he also was named director of alumni affairs at North Carolina Central University. Gregory was the founding chair of the African American Leadership Initiative of Greater Durham and Wake County and served on the Durham Arts Council.
