Last year students in the psychology and sociology club at Grambling State University in Louisiana launched a book drive to collect books for the library at the Richwood Correctional Center in Monroe, Louisiana. The students are now starting a second book drive to collect volumes for inmates at another correctional facility.
Now Grambling State University has issued the HBCU Challenge to other historically Black college and universities to conduct book drives for prisons in their states. The HBCU that collects the most books for prison libraries through the end of the month will be designated the winner of the HBCU Challenge.
