Tarell Alvin McCraney is a new professor of theatre and civic engagement at the University of Miami in Florida. Professor McCraney is an award-winning playwright and the winner of a 2013 MacArthur genius award.
A graduate of the New World School of the Arts High School in Miami, McCraney earned a bachelor of fine arts degree at DePaul University in Chicago. He holds a master of fine arts degree in playwriting from the Yale School of Drama.
Mary D. Bruce was promoted to full professor in the College of Business and Public Administration at Governors State University in University Park, Illinois. She has been on the faculty at the university since 2004.
Professor Bruce is a graduate of Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where she majored in mass communication. She holds a master of public administration degree from Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan, and a Ph.D. in political science from Wayne State University in Detroit.
George Ude was appointed to the Wilson H. Elkins Professorship of the University of Maryland System. Dr. Ude is a professor of biology in the department of natural sciences at Bowie State University.
Professor Ude has been on the faculty at Bowie State since 2003. He teaches courses on molecular biology, applied biotechnology, and genetic engineering.
Berhanu Nega was promoted to full professor of economics at Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania. Dr. Nega taught at Bucknell from 1991 to 1994 and then returned to his native Ethiopia. He taught at Addis Ababa University and later was elected mayor of Addis Ababa.
Professor Nega is a graduate of the State University of New York and holds a Ph.D. in economics from the New School in New York City.
Chris Webber, who was a five-time all-star in the National Basketball Association, has been appointed a Professor of Practice in the new master’s degree program in sports storytelling at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
Webber played basketball for the University of Michigan for two years before becoming the first pick in the 1993 NBA draft.
