Bryan Washington, associate professor emeritus of English at Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania, died on December 31 after 18-month battle with cancer. He was 57 years ago.
A native of Boston, Dr. Washington was a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, where he majored in literature. He earned a master’s degree in English literature at the University of Oxford. Dr. Washington earned a second master’s degree and a Ph.D. in English and American literature and language from Harvard University.
Dr. Washington joined the faculty at Lafayette College in 1987. He was granted tenure and promoted to associate professor in 1994. Dr. Washington was the author of The Politics of Exile: The Ideology in Henry James, F. Scott Fitzgerald, and James Baldwin (Northeastern University Press, 1995).
