New Administrative Posts in Higher Education for Five African Americans

Kenneth M. Holmes was appointed vice president for student affairs at Howard University in Washington, D.C. He has been serving as assistant vice president and dean of students at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York.

Holmes is a graduate of Mercer University in Macon, Georgia, where he majored in sociology. He holds a master’s degree in student personnel services from Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana.

Cherisna Jean-Marie was named chaplain at Jarvis Christian College in Hawkins, Texas. She is the former associate minister at the New Covenant Christian Church in Nashville, Tennessee.

Jean-Marie is a graduate of Kean University in Union, New Jersey, where she majored in public communications. She holds a master’s degree from Vanderbilt Divinity School in Nashville.

Adria N. Kimbrough was named pre-law adviser in the Center for Law and Public Interest at Dillard University in New Orleans. She has served as a volunteer at the center for the past three years.

A native of Mobile, Kimbrough is a graduate of Talladega College in Alabama, where she majored in history. She earned her law degree at the University of Cincinnati.

rhonda-jeter-twilley-2_altRhonda Jeter-Twilley was named interim dean of the College of Education at Bowie State University in Maryland. Since 2012, she has been associate dean in the College of Education. Dr. Jeter-Twilley has been on the faculty at Bowie State for 16 years.

Dr. Jeter-Twilley is a graduate of Taylor University in Upland, Indiana. She holds a master’s degree in family and community development from the University of Maryland, College Park and a Ph.D. in professional and scientific psychology from the University of Pennsylvania.

Wanda K. Brown was appointed director of library services at Winston-Salem State University in North Carolina. She was associate dean of the Z. Smith Reynolds Library at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem. She joined the staff at Wake Forest in 1977.

Brown is a graduate of Winston-Salem State University and holds a master of library and information science degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

Rogers walked-on to the football team at what was then Memphis State University in 1968, making him the institution's first Black football player. After graduating in 1972, he spent the next four decades as a coach and administrator with Memphis-area schools.

Dr. Aveilhe held various student affairs and governmental affairs positions with Howard University, California State University, and the City University of New York.
