Harold M. Rose, Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Geography and Urban Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, died on February 2. He was 86 years old.
Dr. Rose joined the faculty at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 1962 and retired in 1995. He served as president of the Association of American Geographers and received the group’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 1996. The association has since established the Harold M. Rose Award for Anti-Racism Research and Practice in Geography.
A native of Tennessee, Dr. Rose earned a Ph.D. in geography at Ohio State University. He was the editor of Geography of the Ghetto: Perceptions, Problems, and Alternatives (Northern Illinois University Press, 1972).
