Terry Lindsay was appointed vice president for student affairs and campus life at Paul Smith College in New York, effective July 1. He currently serves as dean of diversity and associate professor of cultural studies at North Park University in Chicago.
Dr. Lindsay holds a bachelor’s degree in African American studies and a master’s degree in college counseling and student personnel from the University at Buffalo of the State University of New York System. He earned a doctorate in higher education administration from Argosy University.
Shawna Young was named director of the Talent Identification Program at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. The program identifies gifted youth and brings them to Duke for summer academic programs. Young has been serving as director of the Office of Engineering Outreach Programs at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Young is a graduate of Howard University in Washington, D.C., where she majored in chemistry. She holds a master’s degree in science education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and an MBA from the Sloan School of Management at MIT.
Lynette Clemetson was named director of the Knight-Wallace Fellowships and the Livingston Awards at the University of Michigan, effective July 1. The fellowships offer mid-career journalists the opportunity to spend a year at the university and the awards honor young journalists under the age of 35.
Clemetson has been serving as the senior director of strategy and content initiatives at National Public Radio. She holds a bachelor’s degree in English and a master’s degree in East Asian studies from the University of Pittsburgh.
Rick W. Smith Jr. is the new vice president for external relations and development at Kentucky State University in Frankfort. He was system director of communications for KentuckyOne Health in Louisville. He is a former television news reporter and was an adjunct instructor of marketing at St. Catharine College in Springfield, Kentucky.
Smith is a graduate of the University of Louisville, where he majored in broadcast journalism. He holds an MBA from Kennedy Western University.
Lynn Swann was named as the next director of athletics at the University of Southern California, effective July 1. Swan is a graduate of the university with a bachelor’s degree in public relations. In 1974, Swann was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers of the National Football League. He won four Super Bowl championships and in 2001 was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio.
Swann has also had a long career as a sports broadcaster for ABC Television. In 2006, he made an unsuccessful run for governor of Pennsylvania.
Pamela Nolan Young is the inaugural director for academic diversity and inclusion at the University of Notre Dame in Indiana. She is the former director of institutional diversity and equity at Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts.
Young is a graduate of Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire. She holds a master’s degree in educational leadership from Salem State University and a law degree from the University of Notre Dame.
