Fayetteville State University, the historically Black educational institution in North Carolina, reports that it expects the largest first-year class in university history. The university notes that the number of applications for admission was up 12 percent and the number of accepted students is up 19 percent from a year ago. As of the beginning of May, 630 students have made a deposit indicating that they attend to enroll this fall. This is up from 493 in last year’s entering class. This is an increase of 30 percent.
James Anderson, chancellor of Fayetteville State University, stated that “these data suggest that increasingly high school graduates in North Carolina and from other states are selecting Fayetteville State University for the academic programs and student life it has to offer. Students tend to apply to their first-choice institutions early and we are pleased to see that FSU is a first-choice option to an increasing number of prospective students in this targeted group.”
