Historically Black Tougaloo College in Mississippi has announced that beginning this fall it will be offering a new minor program in pre-law. Students in the program will be required to take 18 credit hours to qualify for the pre-law minor. Required courses include two semesters of constitutional law, legal research, legal writing, the legal environment of business, and the logic and effective thinking.
Students in the pre-law program are encouraged to take courses in mock trial, American national government, and ethics, medicine, and technology. Students will need to maintain at least a 2.0 average to qualify for the credential of the pre-law minor. Students in the pre-law program must all comply with a professional dress code.
According to the college, “students who complete the Pre-Law Minor will develop a deeper understanding of how law and legal systems intersect with the everyday lives of ordinary people, especially in terms of race, class, ethnicity, gender, age, and sexual orientation. Students will also develop a deeper awareness of how law and legal systems intersect with systems of power and privilege.”
