Charles Warfield, who served on the faculty at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo for 41 years, died on June 5. He was 77 years old and suffered from cancer.
Dr. Warfield joined the faculty at Western Michigan University in 1972 and retired in 2013. Upon his retirement, he was named associate professor emeritus of educational leadership, research and technology. Since 2009, Dr. Warfield served as president of the Metropolitan Kalamazoo Branch of the NAACP. He was the former president of the Kalamazoo Public Schools Board of Education.
Professor Warfield was a native of Kalamazoo. He earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Western Michigan University and a doctoral degree from the University of Oregon.
Dr. Warfield will surly be missed by WMU and the Kalamazoo community. He made a difference in the lives of so many. He wanted to make sure every child had a quality education. He often spoke for those who could not speak for themselves. Thank you Dr. Charles Warfield!
