Two New Science Buildings to Be Constructed at Savannah State University

savannah-stateSavannah State University, the historically Black educational institution in Georgia, is breaking ground on two new academic buildings on campus. The university is constructing a marine sciences building and a science and technology building.

The marine science building is situated on acreage that has deep water access to the ocean, which enables students and faculty boat access to the ocean regardless of tides. The 17,000-square-foot marine sciences building will include laboratories for necropsy, fish ecology, environmental toxicology, ocean acidification, and coastal biophysics, among others.

The new 30,000-square-foot science and technology building on Savannah State’s main campus will house laboratories for engineering technology, electrical engineering, civil engineering and chemistry. The new building was thought to be the location of an old cemetery. However, during preliminary excavations no graves, tombstones, or other features indicating that a cemetery existed at the site were found.
