HBCUs Sign Transfer Agreement With California Community Colleges

ccc_logo_wrap_text_clrAn additional 12 historically Black colleges and universities have entered into an agreement with the California Community Colleges. They join nine other HBCUs that established the partnership last year. Under the agreement, students who complete an associate’s degree with a grade point average of 2.5 or higher can automatically gain admission to the HBCUs as junior transfer students.

The participating HBCUs are Bennett College, Clark Atlanta University, Dillard University, Fisk University, Grambling State University, Kentucky State University, Lincoln University of Missouri, Philander Smith College, Talladega College, Tuskegee University and Wiley College. Also participating are Bethune Cookman University, Central State University, Edward Waters College, Florida Memorial University, Huston-Tillotson University, Lane College, The Lincoln University of Pennsylvania, Stillman College, Tougaloo College, and West Virginia State University.

Manica Finch, director of admissions at Bethune-Cookman University, stated that “this is a monumental move for us. We are able to offer a unique college experience to students who may not have Bethune-Cookman University or any other HBCU on their radar, simply because of location.”
