Olufunke A. Fontenot to Serve as Provost at Albany State University

fontenotOlufunke A. Fontenot was named interim provost and vice president for academic affairs at Albany State University in Georgia. She has been serving as a professor of criminal justice and dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Georgia College and State University in Milledgeville.

Dr. Fontenot holds degrees in law from Obafemi Awolowo University in Nigeria, the University of Cambridge in England, and Yale University in Connecticut. She earned a doctorate in higher education management from the Graduate School of Education at the University of Pennsylvania.

In accepting the appointment, Dr. Fontenot said that “I am excited at the opportunity to join the new Albany State University at this momentous time in the institution’s history. The ongoing consolidation of Albany State University and Darton State College presents immense opportunities for innovation and creativity. The sky is the limit. I look forward to working with students, staff, faculty and administration as we navigate the new challenges and opportunities as one institution in the service of our local and global communities.”
