Four African American Men Appointed to Key Administrative Posts in Higher Education

danielsRick Daniels was promoted to dean of students at Rock Valley College in Rockford, Illinois.  He previously served as a director of student life at the college.

Daniels is a 2008 graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. He earned a master’s degree in education from the same university in 2011.

moffetRaphael X. Moffett was appointed vice president for student affairs at Texas Southern University in Houston. Since 2012, Dr. Moffett has served as vice president for student affairs at Langston University in Oklahoma.

Dr. Moffett is a graduate of Washington State University. He holds a master’s degree and a doctorate in educational leadership from Clark Atlanta University.

jackthomasJack Thomas, president of Western Illinois University in Macomb, has been elected to the board of directors of the American Association of State Colleges and Universities. He has been president of Western Illinois University since 2011. President Thomas is the author of Within These Gates: Academic Work, Academic Leadership, University Life, and the Presidency (University Press of America, 2015).

Dr. Thomas is a graduate of Alabama A&M University. He holds a master’s degree in English education from Virginia State University and a Ph.D. in English literature and criticism from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

peter-millet39Peter Edmund Millet was named executive vice president at Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee. He is the former president of Stillman College in Alabama. From 2004 to 2012, Dr. Millet was dean of the College of Education at Tennessee State University.

Dr. Millet is a graduate of Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan, where he majored in clinical psychology. He holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Ohio State University.

A Change in Leadership at Tennessee State University

Ronald Johnson, who has served as interim president of Tennessee State University for the past six monthly, has abruptly resigned his position. The university's board of trustees has appointed Dwayne Tucker, a Tennessee State University alumnus, as the new interim president of the university. He has been serving as CEO of LEAD Public Schools, a network of five charter middle and high schools in the Nashville area.
