The Atlanta University Center Consortium is teaming up with the city of Atlanta to beef up security in and around the campuses of the consortium. The consortium of historically Black colleges and universities consists of Spelman College, Clark Atlanta University, Morehouse College and the Morehouse School of Medicine.
The effort will include the installation of 35 new security cameras and five license plate readers on and near the college campuses. The video feeds will be monitered around the clock by campus police officers and at the video integration center of the Atlanta Police Department.
The goal of the new program is to protect student, faculty staff, and people living near the HBCUs from violent and property crime. The security project will cost $700,000.
