The board of trustees of Spelman College, the liberal arts educational institution for Black women in Atlanta, has named Sharon Davies as its next provost and vice president of academic affairs. She will begin her new role on June 1.
In 2015, Professor Davies was named vice provost and chief diversity officer at Ohio State University. She has been on the faculty at the university’s Moritz College of Law for the past 22 years and holds the Gregory H. Williams Chair in Civil Rights & Civil Liberties. Professor Davies is also the executive director of the Kirwan Institute for the Study of Race & Ethnicity at the university. She is the author of Rising Road: A True Tale of Love, Race, and Religion in America (Oxford University Press, 2010).
Professor Davies is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, where she majored in political science. She earned her law degree at Columbia University in New York City.
