Kentucky State University, the historically Black educational institution in Frankfort, has announced the creation of the Institute for Lifelong Learning. The new academic unit will focus on continuing education programs. Offerings will include credit-bearing courses for teachers and social workers who want to enhance their professional development skills and credentials. But there will also be many noncredit courses in subject areas such as wine tasting, belly dancing, and English as a second language. There will be courses for high school students who want extra help in Spanish, writing, and mathematics.
Lorna Shaw-Berbick, associate provost at Kentucky State University, said that “these classes are fresh, new, original and fun.”
It is hoped that the Institute for Lifelong Learning will also serve to increase enrollments and enhance the revenue stream at the university.
