Jackson State University Partners With the School of Pharmacy at Ole Miss

The department of biology at historically Black Jackson State University in Mississippi has entered into a partnership agreement with the School of Pharmacy at the University of Mississippi. Under the agreement, pre-pharmacy students who meet certain qualifications will get preferred admission status at the School of Pharmacy at the University of Mississippi.

For admission consideration, pre-pharmacy students at Jackson State will be required to complete established pre-pharmacy courses, have high academic performance, and demonstrate a record of service activities. Those who meet the requirements will be admitted to the Preferred Admission Program after the first semester of their freshman year.

Timothy Turner, chair of the department of biology at Jackson State University, said that “it is a tremendous opportunity for our students to enter directly into one of the numerous career choices within the field of pharmacy. While at the same time, this collaboration will also increase the cultural diversity within the field of pharmacy in this state and throughout the country.”

Dr. Turner is a graduate of Jackson State University. He holds a Ph.D. in endocrinology/tumor biology from University of California, Berkeley. Dr. Turner joined the faculty at Jackson State in 2015 after teaching at Tuskegee University in Alabama.
