Fayetteville State University, the historically Black educational institution in North Carolina, has entered into a partnership with the United States Army Research Laboratory. The partnership model will address the following objectives:
- To encourage and enhance study in the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) disciplines and to provide laboratory and other technical experiences that support the pursuit of STEM courses, collegiate STEM majors and STEM-technical careers, relating basic academic skills to realistic contemporary applications for students, faculty and staff;
- To provide technical assistance to the school system, which can enhance teaching experience in STEM fields; and
- To leverage regional STEM collaborative efforts in support of STEM educational goals benefiting students, government, industry and nonprofit organizations.
Under the agreement, faculty and students will have summer research opportunities at the Army Research Laboratory in Adelphi, Maryland. Staff of the Army Research Laboratory will also serve on the university’s departmental advisory committees to assist in the enhancement/development of STEM curricula. And the Army Research Laboratory will loan and or donate equipment to the school.
