Wanda S. Mitchell, the former vice president for inclusive excellence at Virginia Commonwealth University, died on July 31 in Richmond, Virginia. She was 57 years old.
Dr. Mitchell served as the university’s chief diversity officer and was an affiliate professor in the department of counseling and special education in the School of Education. Earlier in her career, Dr. Mitchell was vice provost for faculty development and inclusive excellence at the University of New Hampshire and served as an endowed professor of education at Hampton University in Virginia.
Dr. Mitchell was a graduate of Georgia Southern University, where she majored in psychology. She held a master’s degree in community counseling from Hampton University and a doctoral degree in counseling from the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia.
