The board of trustees of Morehouse College in Atlanta has chosen David A. Thomas as the educational institution’s 12th president. Dr. Thomas will take office on January 1.
“I am humbled and honored to be appointed as the next President of Morehouse College,” said Professor Thomas. “What draws me to Morehouse is that I see a connection between what I value and what this college has always represented — the mission to develop men with disciplined minds who will lead lives of leadership and service, and to be stewards of Black culture and community. There is no place like Morehouse on the planet.”
Dr. Thomas currently serves as the H. Naylor Fitzhugh Professor of Business Administration at Harvard Business School. He is the former dean of the McDonough School of Business at Georgetown University.
Dr. Thomas will be the first non-alumnus to serve as president of Morehouse in the past half-century. He had wanted to attend Morehouse and was accepted for admission but chose to go to Yale University due to an offer of financial aid.
Professor Thomas earned a bachelor’s degree, a master’s degree, and a Ph.D. in organizational behavior from Yale University. He also holds a master’s degree in organizational psychology from Columbia University.
Congrats and all the best in the new role.
