In 2016, the board of trustees named Larry Robinson as interim president of Florida A&M University. He had served in that role twice before from July 2012 to April 2014 and in 2007. In September 2017, the board of trustees extended his contract as interim president for another year through September 2018.
Now, the board of trustees has named Dr. Robinson as the permanent president. He will be the university’s twelfth president.
“I am humbled and overjoyed to have this opportunity to help move this University forward. I understand the awesomeness of this responsibility,” Dr. Robinson said, accepting the appointment. “I feel very, very fortunate to be a part of your team. I want to emphasize that our No. 1 priority will be student success – fully understanding that a key element of our student success is the great work of our faculty and staff.”
Before taking over as interim president last year, Dr. Robinson had been serving as chair of the university’s Strategic Planning Task Force. Over the years, he has served as provost and vice president of academic affairs, chief operating officer, special assistant to the president, professor, and director of the Environmental Sciences Institute. In 2010, Dr. Robinson took a leave of absence from the university to serve as assistant secretary for conservation and management at the U.S. Commerce Department.
Dr. Robinson is a summa cum laude graduate of the University of Memphis. He earned a Ph.D. in nuclear chemistry from Washington University in St. Louis.
Congratulations!
