Higher Education Grants or Gifts of Interest to African Americans

Here is this week’s news of grants or gifts to historically Black colleges and universities or for programs of particular interest to African Americans in higher education.

Shaw University the historically Black educational institution in Raleigh, North Carolina, received a $50,000 grant from the Annie E. Casey Foundation to expand its entrepreneurship programs. The grant will help fund the university’s Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center.

Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, received a $7.2 million grant from the National Institutes of Health for a program to address racial and ethnic disparities in health. The university will develop and test interventions to improve patients experiences with health care providers.

The University of Florida received a five-year, $8.7 million grant for programs to reduce hunger in the African nations of Ethiopia and Burkina Faso. The programs will conduct research on developing better feed for cattle, sheep, and goats.

In Memoriam: Nathan Howard Cook, 1939-2024

Dr. Cook was a longtime faculty member and administrator at Lincoln University of Missouri. A full professor of biology, he held several leadership roles including vice president for academic affairs.
