The history department at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock has announced plans for a new minor degree program in race and ethnicity. The program will begin this fall. Faculty at the university are being asked to submit courses for consideration as electives for the new program. The minor will include six hours of required course work and 12 hours of electives.
The two required courses are “Introduction to Race and Ethnicity” and “History of Race and Ethnicity in the United States.”
“The minor in race and ethnicity coincides with the creation of the Institute on Race and Ethnicity,” said Adjoa Aiyetoro, director of the institute. “Educating the community on issues of racial and ethnic justice in Arkansas must include offering students interested in this topic an academic course of study.”
