Charles Whitaker to Lead the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University

On July 1, Charles Whitaker will become interim dean of the Medill School of Journalism, Media, Integrated Marketing Communications at Northwestern University in Illinois.

Professor Whitaker holds the Helen Gurley Brown Magazine Chair and is the associate dean of journalism at the Medill School. He joined the faculty at the journalism school in 1993. Before joining the faculty at Northwestern University, Whitaker was a senior editor at Ebony magazine. Earlier, he was a reporter at the Miami Herald and the Louisville Times.

Professor Whitaker teaches classes in news writing, magazine writing, magazine editing, and blogging. He also teaches in the university’s School of Professional Studies and at the High School Journalism Institute.

A co-author of the textbook Magazine Writing (Routledge, 2014), Professor Whitaker holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Northwestern University.
