Lawrence L. Rouse Appointed President of Pitt Community College in Winterville, North Carolina

The State Board of Community Colleges in North Carolina has selected Lawrence L. Rouse as the next president of Pitt Community College in Winterville, North Carolina. When Dr. Rouse takes office on August 1, he will be the fifth president of the college since its founding 57 years ago.

The college enrolls about 8,300 students in degree programs and serves more than 25,000 students in credit and non-credit courses. African Americans make up 37 percent of the undergraduate student body, according to the latest data supplied to the U.S. Department of Education.

Since 2005, Dr. Rouse has served as president of James Sprunt Community College in Kenansville, North Carolina. Earlier, he was dean of students at Johnston Community College in Smithfield, North Carolina, and associate vice president for enrollment management/dean of students at Central Carolina Technical College in Sumter, South Carolina.

In 2016, Dr. Rosue was named the North Carolina Community College System’s President of the Year. He is a graduate of Voorhees College in Denmark, South Carolina, where he majored in sociology. Dr. Rouse holds a master’s degree in education from the University of South Carolina and an educational doctorate from North Carolina State University.
