UNCF Goes on the Road to Boost Interest in HBCUs

The United Negro College Fund’s (UNCF) Empower Me Tour is a traveling college-and-career-readiness roadshow that aims to inform students about educational opportunities at UNCF member institutions. Last year alone, nearly $4 million in scholarships were awarded by UNCF-member institutions during the tour.

Participants in the Empower Me Tour attend HBCU workshops with award-winning speakers and presenters. Recruiters are able to offer on-site admission and scholarships. The tour also offers sessions for parents to learn more about how to prepare financially for their child’s higher education.

The following is a list of the scheduled stops for this year on the Empower Me Tour. The sessions are free, but registration is required. For more information, click here.

* Saturday, October 20: New York, NY
* Tuesday, October 23: Cincinnati, Ohio
* Thursday, November 1: Milwaukee, Wisconsin
* Wednesday, November 7: Chicago, Illinois
* Friday, November 16: Los Angeles, California

The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges has recently voted to remove Saint Augustine's University's accreditation. The university will maintain its accreditation during the appeals process. To remain accredited, the HBCU has until February 2025 to provide evidence of its financial stability.

Ronald Johnson, who has served as interim president of Tennessee State University for the past six monthly, has abruptly resigned his position. The university's board of trustees has appointed Dwayne Tucker, a Tennessee State University alumnus, as the new interim president of the university. He has been serving as CEO of LEAD Public Schools, a network of five charter middle and high schools in the Nashville area.
