Seven Black Scholars Appointed Department Chairs at Bowie State University in Maryland

LaTanya Brown-Robertson has been named interim chair of the department of accounting, economics, and finance. She has been a professor at Bowie State since 2005. Dr. Brown-Robertson holds a bachelor’s degree, a master’s degree, and a Ph.D. all in economics from Howard University.

Gina Lewis has been named chair of the department of fine and performing arts. She has been a professor at Bowie State since 2005. Professor Lewis holds a bachelor’s degree in liberal arts, cultural studies, and studio art from Norwich University and a master’s degree in painting and mixed media art from Howard University.

Wilbur Parker has been named chair of the department of educational leadership. He has been a professor at Bowie State since 2012. Dr. Parker holds a bachelor’s degree in pre-medicinal studies and biology from Tennessee State University, a master’s degree in secondary education and teaching from George Washington University, and a doctorate in educational and organizational leadership.

George Ude has been named chair of the department of natural sciences. He has taught at Bowie State since 2003. Dr. Ude holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Ife in Nigeria, a master’s degree in genetics from Obafemi Awolowo University in Nigeria, and a Ph.D. in plant breeding and genetics from the University of Maryland.

Altwan Whitefield has been named chair of the department of military science. She previously served as director of the United States Army Transportation Agency. The agency provides transportation to the First Family and coordinates presidential motorcades.

Otis Williams has been named chair of the department of counseling. He has taught at Bowie State since 2008. Dr. Williams holds a bachelor’s degree from Bowie State University, a master’s degree from Johns Hopkins University, and a Ph.D. from Howard University.

Azene Zenebe has been named chair of the department of management information systems. He was previously the coordinator of the master’s degree program in management information systems. Dr. Zenebe holds a bachelor’s degree in statistics from Addis Ababa University in Ethiopia. He earned a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in information systems from the University of Maryland.
