Karamatou Yacoubou Djima has been named an assistant professor of mathematics. She holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and a bachelor’s degree in engineering from the College of Staten Island of the City University of New York. She earned a master’s degree and Ph.D. both in applied mathematics and statistics and scientific computation from the University of Maryland.
Dwight A. Carey has been named an assistant professor of art and the history of art. He was a visiting assistant professor at Amherst during the 2017-18 academic year. Dr. Carey holds a bachelor’s degree from Oberlin College in Ohio and a master’s degree and Ph.D. from the University of California, Los Angeles.
Jakina Debnam has been named an assistant professor of economics. She recently completed her Ph.D. in applied economics from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. She is a graduate of Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, where she majored in applied mathematics and economics.
Marc Edwards has been named an assistant professor of biology. He was previously a postdoctoral researcher at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore.Dr. Edwards holds a bachelor’s degree in biology from McGill University in Montreal and a Ph.D. in biomedical sciences from Washington University in St. Louis.
