Three African Americans at Syracuse University Taking on New Roles

Kishi Animashaun Ducre has been named the inaugural associate dean of diversity, equity, and inclusion in the College of Arts and Sciences at Syracuse University. She currently serves as an associate professor of African American studies.

Dr. Ducre holds a master’s degree in sociology from the University of Maryland and a Ph.D. in environmental justice from the University of Michigan.

Karen Davis has been appointed interim assistant dean for inclusive excellence in the College of Engineering and Computer Science at the university. She has been serving as the director of career services for the college since 2004.

Davis holds a bachelor’s degree in speech communications and management and an MBA in information systems both from Syracuse University.

Dawit Negussey has been appointed the Graduate Dean’s Faculty Fellow for Diversity and Inclusion at the university. He currently serves as a professor of civil and environmental engineering and leads Syracuse’s GEM Fellowship Program and oversees the university’s participation in the National GEM Consortium.

Dr. Negussey earned his Ph.D. from the University of British Columbia in Canada.

Dr. Cook was a longtime faculty member and administrator at Lincoln University of Missouri. A full professor of biology, he held several leadership roles including vice president for academic affairs.
