Gary LeRoy, associate dean for student affairs and admissions at the Boonshoft School of Medicine at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio, has been named president-elect of the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP). He will serve a one-year term as president-elect, followed by a one-year term as president in 2019, and a one year term as chair of the AAFP Board of Directors in 2020.
The academy represents 131,400 physicians and medical students across the country. The organization is devoted to primary care and advocates on behalf of family physicians and patients. Dr. LeRoy has been a member of the AAFP since 1991 and has served as the Ohio delegate to the organization since 2001. Previously, he served as president of the Ohio Academy of Family Physicians from 2004 to 2015.
In addition to his position as associate dean, Dr. LeRoy is an associate professor of family medicine. He also serves as a staff physician at the East Dayton Health Clinic, where he was the medical director from 1994 to 2008.
Dr. Leroy is an alumnus of Wright State University were he earned both his bachelor’s degree and medical degree.
