Two African American Scholars Honored With Prestigious Awards

Monica Walker, dean of development education and special academic programs at the Community College of Baltimore County, has received the 2018 Institutional Leadership Award from Campus Compact Mid-Atlantic. The award recognizes Dr. Walker’s outstanding contributions to inspire a culture of service and civic and community engagement, to institutionalize anti-poverty initiatives toward educational equity, and to enhance the pipeline for college, career and civic readiness.  Dr. Walker holds a bachelor’s degree in communication from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia, a master of public administration degree from the University of Baltimore and a doctorate of education from Morgan State University in Baltimore.

Brandon Gamble, dean of student success at Oakwood University in Huntsville, Alabama, has received the Sandra Goff Award from the California Association of School Psychologists. He was recognized for his distinguished service to the profession of school psychology in California. Dr. Gamble holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Oakwood University, a master’s degree in school psychology from San Diego State University, and a doctorate in educational psychology from the University of Southern California.
