Three African American Scholars Assigned to New University Teaching Posts

Cesunica Ivey has been named an assistant professor in the department of chemical and environmental engineering at the University of California, Riverside. She was a postdoctoral researcher in the department of physics at the University of Nevada-Reno and a visiting scientist at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory.

Dr. Ivey holds a Ph.D. in environmental engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology.

Erica Edwards has been named an assistant professor of educational leadership and policy studies in the College of Education at Wayne State University in Detroit. She previously served as director of after school programs for Sasha Bruce Youthwork, a Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit supporting runaway, homeless, abused, and neglected youth.

Dr. Edwards holds a bachelor’s degree in history from Spelman College in Atlanta, a master’s degree in education from the University of Pennsylvania, and a doctorate from Georgia State University.

Lawrence Jackson has been named a Gilman Scholar at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. He has served as a Bloomberg Distinguished Professor of English and History at Johns Hopkins since 2016.

Dr. Jackson holds a Ph.D. in English and American literature from Stanford University.

Dr. Cook was a longtime faculty member and administrator at Lincoln University of Missouri. A full professor of biology, he held several leadership roles including vice president for academic affairs.
