Jamie R. Riley Appointed Dean of Students at the University of Alabama

The University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa has named Jamie R. Riley as dean of students, effective on February 25, 2019. He will also hold the title of vice president of the university.

Dr. Riley was the executive director and chief operating officer of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. Earlier in his career, he held student affairs and diversity and inclusion posts at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, the University of California, Berkeley, Longwood University in Farmville, Virginia, the University of Georgia, Morehouse College in Atlanta, and Western Kentucky University.

In accepting his new appointment, Dr. Riley said, “I am thrilled to join the University of Alabama. I have always been committed to working with students as well as campus and community partners to ensure that all programs and services are accessible and inclusive and that the campus community is safe and vibrant. I look forward to providing the same types of experiences and even more for the dynamic and energetic UA community.”

Dr. Riley holds a bachelor’s degree in health care administration and planning and a master’s degree in educational leadership from Tennessee State University. He earned a doctorate in counseling and student personnel services from the University of Georgia.
