New Administrative Posts for Four African Americans in the Academic World

Kenneth Strother Jr. has been named director of operations and deputy director for the Princeton University Department of Public Safety. He was the station commander at the Arlington campus for Pennsylvania State University Police and Public Safety.

Strother holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Thomas Edison State University in Trenton, New Jersey, and a master’s degree in criminal justice from the University of Oklahoma.

Opio Mashariki has been named director of intercollegiate athletics at Savannah State University in Georgia. He had been serving as interim director since August 2018 and was assistant athletic director since 2005.

Mashariki holds a bachelor’s degree in mass communications/public relations from Bethune-Cookman University in Daytona Beach, Florida.

Alphonso Garrett Jr. has been named president of the Virginia Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers. He is the director of undergraduate diversity recruitment initiatives in the Office of Undergraduate Admissions at Virginia Tech.

Garrett holds a bachelor’s degree in communication from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia, a master’s degree in enrollment management from Capella University, and an educational specialist degree in instructional technology from Virginia Tech.

La’Tosha Brown has been named clinical site development manager for the physician assistant program at Christian Brothers University in Memphis. She has previously served in various administrative positions in physician assistant programs at two other universities.

Brown holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration and finance from LeMoyne-Owen College in Memphis, and an MBA and a master’s of public administration degree from Strayer University.
