Through funding from the Center for International Studies, the University of Virginia Library has established a cooperative agreement with libraries in the African nation of Ghana. Librarians from the University of Ghana in Accra and the University of Education in Winneba, Ghana, recently visited the University of Virginia campus. The Ghanaian librarians hope to learn how to enhance the services they provide to students and faculty at their universities. Of particular interest is methods of enhancing digital collections and making them available to their university communities.
The agreement will also be beneficial to the University of Virginia. By enhancing the digital collections of the Ghanaian libraries, the materials in their collections will be more easily accessible to scholars in the United States.
I commend the University of Virginia for taking steps to improve the Library services in the great country of Ghana.
