Bowdoin College, the highly rated liberal arts college in Brunswick, Maine, has announced the creation of four new endowed faculty professorships that honor distinguished Black graduates of the college. The four new chairs will honor Matthew D. Branche, Iris W. Davis. Rasuli Lewis, and Frederic Morrow.
The Henry E. Frye Distinguished Professorship is named for an American judge and politician who served as the first African American chief justice of the North Carolina Supreme Court. Judge Frye and his wife, Shirley, are graduates of North Carolina A&T State University and established the endowed faculty position.
Taking on new positions are Bianca Baldridge at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, Stephen Buckley at Duke University in North Carolina, Joshua Bartholomew at the Saint Paul School of Theology in Kansas, Emily Greenwood at Princeton University in New Jersey, Warrick Moses at Syracuse University in New York, and Charles Peterson at Oberlin College in Ohio.

James McLeod was appointed chair of the department of music at Wilberforce University in Ohio. Phillis Isabella Sheppard was appointed the inaugural director of the James Lawson Institute for the Research and Study of Nonviolent Movements at Vanderbilt University and Kirsten T. Edwards was appointed associate professor of educational policy studies at Florida International University.

Three new scholars in the department of African American and African studies at Michigan State University - Trimiko Melancon, LeConté Dill, and Gianina K. Lockley - will help strengthen and broaden the base of expertise in the department bringing a focus on Black feminisms, Black genders studies, and Black sexualities studies.

Marshall at Georgia Southern University, Allison Leggett at the University of California, Los Angeles, Bryan Dewsbury at Florida International University in Miami, and Djamali Muhoza at the University of Arkansas at Monticello.
Dedric Carter, a professor of practice at Washington University in St. Louis, was named the inaugural vice chancellor for innovation and chief commercialization officer at the university. Kalenda Eaton, an associate professor at the University of Oklahoma, will direct Oklahoma research for the Black Homesteader Project, and Bayo Akinfemi has joined the faculty at the University of Southern California.
Taking on new roles are La Toya Hart at Jackson State University in Mississippi, Ivory W. Lyles at Oregon State University, Erin H. Moore at Shaw University in Raleigh, North Carolina, Leon C. Prieto at Clayton State University in Morrow, Georgia, and Nicholl Montgomery at Simmons University in Boston.
Professor Marc E. Morris was named interim associate provost for academic administration at Southern Illinois University Carbondale and Traci Griffith was named an associate professor of communications at Simmons University. Tryan L. McMickens was appointed associate professor of higher education at North Carolina Central University and Scorpio Rogers is a new vice president at Mercy College.
