Duhart has been a faculty member with the Shepard Broad College of Law at Nova Southeastern University in Florida for over two decades. An expert in legal writing, Duhart recently completed a second term as co-president of the Society of American Law Teachers.

Maxine Burkett is founding faculty director of Stanford University's new Center for Just Environmental Futures and Kim Lewis is chief research officer at Howard University. The University of Georgia has named J. Marshall Shepherd a Regents' Professor, which is the university's highest professional honor.

Annice Yarber-Allen Named Provost of Albany State University

Originally trained as a social worker, Dr. Yarber-Allen has worked in higher education for over two decades. Her prior experience includes academic leadership roles with Auburn University at Montgomery and Columbus State University.

Tennessee State University's Learotha Williams, Jr. is the new Davidson County Historian, Tia-Simone Gardner was awarded tenure at Macalaster College in Minnesota, and Jonli Tunstall was appointed associate vice provost of student diversity and director of the Academic Advancement Program at the University of California, Los Angeles.

Nannette C. Turner to Lead the College of Health Professions at Mercer University

Dr. Turner currently serves as executive associate dean of Mercer University's College of Health Professions. A faculty member for nearly two decades, she has over 25 years of experience as public practitioner in Texas and Georgia.

Michael Morgan was named associate dean for research in the College of Letters & Science at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and Maria Rosario Jackson was named University Professor of Creativity and Social Impact at Arizona State University.

A Trio of New Deans at Prairie View A&M University

Prairie View A&M University in Texas recently hired three new deans. Quincy C. Moore III is dean of the Honors College and Aneika L Simmons is dean of the College of Business. Effective April 1, Carmen R. Cater will serve as the inaugural dean of the University College.

Fenaba R. Addo has been promoted to full professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Darrell A. H. Miller has been selected for an endowed professorship at the University of Chicago Law School. Jaqueline Allen Trimble, professor at Alabama State University, was named poet laureate for the state of Alabama.

Darius Watson Named Dean of the School of Professional Studies at Lincoln University of Missouri

Alicia Moore was promoted to professor of education at Southwestern University, making her university's first African American woman to earn the rank of full professor.

Kecia Williams Smith Promoted to Dean of the Business School at North Carolina A&T State University

Dr. Smith has led North Carolina A&T State University's Willie A. Deese College of Business and Economics on an interim basis since July 2025. She has taught at the university for the past six years and directs the HBCU's master of accountancy degree program.

Douglas LaVergne to Lead the College of Agricultural, Life and Natural Sciences at Alabama A&M

Dr. LaVergne currently serves as associate vice president for academic affairs and undergraduate studies at Alabama A&M University. He has an extensive background in agricultural education, including service as vice president for land-grant engagement and dean of the College of Agriculture, Environmental, and Human Sciences at Lincoln University of Missouri.

Stacy Ryan-Pettes and Keidrick Roy have joined the faculties of Case Western Reserve University and Dartmouth College, respectively. Kalenda Eaton is taking on a new leadership role with the University of Oklahoma Honors College and Richard Mtisi was selected for an endowed professorship at Luther College in Iowa.

Glenn Chambers to Lead the Michigan State University Honors College

Dr. Chambers has led the Michigan State University Honors College on an interim basis since the Spring 2024 semester. He has held several leadership roles at the university, including associate dean of the Honors College and director of the African American and African studies program.

Airea Matthews Named Provost of Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania

Professor Matthews has taught creative writing and poetry at Bryn Mawr College since 2017. As a poet and educator, she centers her work on the intersections of language, economics, race, and social policy.

Texas Southern University Announces Two New Dean Appointments

At historically Black Texas Southern University, Aisha Moultry has been named interim dean of the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences and Cheree Daniels has been named interim dean of the College of Transdisciplinary Studies.

Scholars From Sub-Saharan Africa Teaching at U.S. Universities

In the 2023-24 academic year, there were 112,552 scholars from foreign nations teaching at colleges and universities in the United States. This was a 10 percent increase from the previous year.
