The Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law at Arizona State University has announced that there are nine new faculty members on campus this fall. Three of the nine new hires are African Americans: Angela Banks, Don Gibson, and Joshua Sellers.
Black faculty earned lower salaries, on average, compared to White faculty — approximately $10,000 to $15,000 less per year. The authors found that wage gaps were largely due to three factors: amount of work experience, research productivity and field of expertise.
Taking on new duties are Getiria Onsongo at Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota, Samir Bandaogo at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut, Yvette Murphy-Erby at the University of Arkansas, and Ann-Margaret Esnard at Georgia State University in Atlanta.
Dr. Hudley was the William and Mary Professor of Community Studies and an associate professor of English at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia. She joined the faculty there in 2005.
The survey by the PhD Project found that there are 22 faculty members from underrepresented groups at the business school at North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro. This was the largest number of any business school in the United States.
John B. King Jr., the former secretary of the U.S. Department of Education, is a visiting professor in the College of Education at the University of Maryland, College Park. He is teaching a course on education policy.
The Black scholars assigned to new duties are Nadia Nurhussein at Johns Hopkins University, Sonja S. Watson at the University of Texas at Arlington, Danielle Wood at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Peggie R. Smith at Washington University in St. Louis.
J. Luke Wood was named Dean's Distinguished Professor at San Diego State University. Michelle Wright was named to an endowed chair at Emory University in Atlanta, and T. Joel Wade was appointed to a Presidential Professorship at Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania.
They are: Melissa C. Thomas Hunt at Vanderbilt, Charkarra Anderson Lewis at the University of Southern Mississippi, Talitha Washington at Howard, Charmaine Royal at Duke, Tara T. Green at UNC-Greensboro, Alwyn Leiba at Miami Dade College, and Enobong Branch at the University of Massachusetts.
Kwesi Daniels was appointed chair of the department of architecture at Tuskegee University in Alabama and Gabriel E. Warren is a new assistant professor of business administration at Bemidji State University in Minnesota.
Taking on new roles are T'Keyah Crystal Keymah at Florida A&M University, Chiquita A. Collins at the University of Texas at San Antonio, Brian Purnell at Bowdoin College in Maine, and T'Mars McCallum at Horry-Georgetown Technical College in South Carolina.
Taking on new faculty roles are Nathan Alexander at Morehouse College in Atlanta, John Robinson at South Carolina State University, Florence Lyons at Albany State University in Georgia and Esperanza Spalding at Harvard University.
Professor Morrell will also serve as the inaugural director of the Center for Literacy Education in the university’s Institute for Educational Initiatives. He will hold joint appointments in the Department of English and the Department of Africana Studies.

Wallace at the Relay Graduate School of Education in New York, Lena Hill at the University of Iowa, and Carol Annette Wilson at Voorhees College in South Carolina.

Black women faculty in new roles are Sherine Obare at Western Michigan University, Erinn Tucker at Georgetown University, Alyssa L. Harris at Boston College, Reena N. Goldthree at Princeton University, Carolyn Gentle-Genitty at IUPUI, and Eleanor Brown at Pennsylvania State University.
Taking on new roles are Donald Mitchell Jr. at Bellarmine University in Louisville, Kentucky, Pero Dagbovie at Michigan State University, Derrick R. Brooms at the University of Cincinnati, and Alvin Crawley at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia.
